Old-fashioned baked mac and cheese is a classic pasta dish that's creamy and packed with cheese. This popular side dish is easy to prepare, budget-friendly, and perfect for feeding a crowd.
Preheat the oven to 180℃ (350℉). Grease a 9×13 inch pan. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil on the stovetop.
Cook the macaroni according to the package directions. Drain the pasta and return it to the pot.
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Whisk in the flour until it becomes frothy.
Add the paprika, salt and pepper and whisk to combine.
Gradually pour in the milk, continuing to whisk as you blend it with the flour and butter mixture. The sauce will start to thicken, which will take about 10 minutes. Keep whisking to prevent the sauce from burning. Once thick, remove from the heat.
Stir half the cheese into the sauce.
Add the macaroni pasta to the sauce.
Mix to combine.
Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and breadcrumbs.
Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the mac and cheese is hot and bubbly.
