Homemade Immunity Shots

If you’re looking for a simple way to boost your immune system using fresh, whole ingredients, these homemade immunity shots are it! They’re bright, zesty, and packed with goodness from fruits and veggies you likely already have on hand.

I love making these in the winter for my husband and me when colds are going around, but honestly, I keep a batch in the fridge year-round. They’re great for that extra pick-me-up when you’re feeling a bit run down.

This version is made using Granny Smith apples, fresh ginger, lemon, carrot, and orange, all blended together and strained for a smooth, vibrant wellness shot.

I like to pour mine into little jars and keep them chilled for a grab-and-go health boost throughout the week. No fancy juicer is needed! Just a blender and a sieve. Simple, wholesome, and so satisfying!

Ingredients & Substitutions

The printable recipe card below has the full ingredients list and instructions.

  • Granny Smith apples: their tartness balances the sweetness of the orange and helps the shot stay crisp. Green apples are ideal, but any apple will work.
  • Lemons: fresh lemons give a big vitamin C punch and help preserve the shots naturally. You can use limes if that’s what you have on hand.
  • Fresh ginger: adds a warm, spicy kick and is fantastic for digestion and immune support. Use more or less to your taste. I like it fiery, but I kept this recipe moderate!
  • Carrots: add natural sweetness and a boost of beta-carotene. They blend well without overpowering.
  • Navel orange: gives a subtle sweetness and citrus flavour. You could swap for mandarins or a splash of orange juice if needed.
  • Water: helps everything blend smoothly and makes the mixture easier to strain.

Recipe Tips

Use a high-speed blender: A strong blender makes a big difference when breaking down fibrous ingredients like carrots and ginger. If your blender struggles, blend in batches or chop ingredients smaller.

Chop ingredients into chunks. This helps your blender handle everything more easily and gives a smoother final texture.

Tweak to your taste. If you like it spicier, add more ginger. Want it sweeter? Use a sweeter apple variety or toss in an extra orange.

Store in glass jars or bottles. These keep the shots fresher for longer and are easy to shake before drinking. Store them in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Freeze extras. Pour any leftover juice into ice cube trays and freeze. You can defrost a cube at a time or toss it into a smoothie!

How to Make Homemade Immunity Shots

Step 1: Wash all your produce well. There’s no need to peel the apples, carrots or ginger unless you want to. Just give them a good scrub! Peel the orange and lemons.

Step 2: Roughly chop the apples, carrots, lemon, ginger, and orange. You don’t need perfect slices, just chunks small enough for your blender to handle.

Step 3: Add everything to a high-speed blender along with 1 cup of water. Start on low, then increase to high until everything is completely blended into a thick pulp. This usually takes 30-40 seconds.

Step 4: Set a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag over a large measuring jug or bowl. Carefully pour the pulpy mixture in and let it slowly strain. Use the back of a spoon to press out as much juice as you can. (This part takes a little patience but is worth it!)

Step 5: Once strained, pour the juice into clean jars or bottles. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Give each shot a quick shake before drinking, as some settling is natural.

Storage Instructions

Store your homemade immunity shots in clean, airtight glass jars or bottles in the fridge. They will keep fresh for up to 5 days. Be sure to shake well before each use, as natural settling will occur.

If you want to make a larger batch, you can freeze the juice in silicone ice cube trays. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. Pop one or two out as needed and thaw in the fridge or add directly to smoothies for a nutrient boost.

Avoid leaving the juice at room temperature for extended periods, as it’s made from fresh produce and doesn’t contain preservatives.

And that’s it! Fresh homemade immunity shots ready to go! I love how easy these are to make and how much more affordable they are compared to store-bought options. They’re a great habit to get into, especially during cold and flu season. You can even freeze leftovers in an ice cube tray and thaw a cube at a time for later.
