Homemade All Purpose Cleaner Ingredients
Castile soap – Castile soap is a natural, versatile soap made from organic vegetable oils such as coconut oil, olive oil, and jojoba oil. Castile soap will help cut through grease and grime. Dr Bronner’s brands are organic and great for already having essential oils in them.
I like to use Dr Bronner’s tea tree scented liquid castile soap in my homemade cleaners. Tea tree essential oil is antibacterial and antiviral, making it perfect for cleaning.
Rosemary essential oils – Rosemary has a soft, warming scent and is primarily used in cleaning and beauty products due to its antibacterial properties. It is also great to relieve stress and frustration, because who wouldn’t want to be calm while doing the housework?
Water – If you use your cleaners quite quickly just use cold tap water. This all-purpose spray will last a bit longer in your cupboard if you use distilled water, it stops mould from growing.
Tip for Mould – Add in 10 more drops of tea tree essential oils. Tea tree’s anti-fungal properties will help clean mould and mildew. It can help prevent future growth by killing the spores. Perfect for windows, window sills and the bathroom.
Essential Oils for Cleaning
I love mixing up my essential oil blends for cleaning, why not when you have the choice to! Here are some of my favourites:
Lemon – If you want a clean, fresh scent try adding lemon essential oils. It is antiseptic, antiviral and anti-infective, perfect to add to cleaning solutions. Also known to help reduce stress – bonus!
Peppermint – Clean, fresh and minty, peppermint oil is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antiseptic. You can buy Dr Bronner’s peppermint castile soap, it’s my favourite.
Eucalyptus – If peppermint isn’t your thing try eucalyptus oil. Fresh and sweet-smelling, it also has antibacterial and antiviral properties.
Tea Tree – As mentioned above tea tree is amazing for killing mould, its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antiseptic also. Making it great for homemade cleaners.
