How to Make a Dog Bandana

Step 1: Cut out the bandana

Download and print out the dog bandana pattern. Cut out the appropriate size pattern for your dog’s collar.

Place the pattern on the fold of the fabric and cut out one piece. Remember to snip the notch in the side.

Step 2: Neaten the bandana edges

If you have an overlocker or serger, neaten the sides and bottom edge of the bandana.

An alternative is to use a zigzag stitch on the sides and bottom edges with a sewing machine.

Step 3: Hem the dog bandana

Once the outer edges are neatened (1), press both sides 5mm to the wrong sides (2). Next, press the bottom edge of the bandana over 5mm to the wrong sides (3). Sew around the outer edges with an edgestitch to secure the hems in place (4).

Step 4: Sew the collar casing

Now, fold the top of the dog bandana down towards the wrong side, matching the notches, and press firmly. Fold this once more to meet the top of the curves and press in place. Pin to hold the casing down. Edgestitch along the lower edge of the casing.

Step 5: Thread the collar through

Now that the casing has been sewn, the dog collar can be threaded. And that’s it!
